William “Bill” Thomas

Scranton, Pennsylvania

4/13/1923 – 8/24/2016

It is sad to report that one of the former legends of competitive skating, Bill Thomas, passed away on August 24, 2016.

Bill was a committed partner to wife Mary, and they were some of the first Esquire Dance Champions in the early days of the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association (RSROA).  Together they were dedicated proficiency test judges who traveled all over the east coast.  Each judged more than 20,000 proficiency tests.

For many decades Bill and Mary officiated at the National Figure Roller Skating Championships, Bill as the Chief Tabulator and Mary as a National Judge who also served as Chair of the Judges Selection Committee.   And for decades, both were respected officials at World Championships in these same capacities.  Bill was a USAC/RS (USA Roller Sports) Board member for nearly 15 years, and also a former President.

We mourn the loss of Bill Thomas and offer our condolences to Mary.  We pray for his transition and for Mary as she begins a life without Bill.
