State of Our States -- Commonwealth of Virginia Racquetball Association (CVRA)

By Mike Grisz, Treasurer/Secretary, CVRA | Nov. 11, 2020, 5:26 p.m. (ET)

In the midst of the pandemic and limited indoor play around the country, we are fortunate to have a vibrant outdoor racquetball community in the Metropolitan DC area. Players routinely travel in to participate in our tournaments from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York, and Pennsylvania.

On Saturday, October 24, we hosted our third outdoor tournament of this season at Stratton Woods Park in Reston, Virginia. At this event, we offered both King of the Court and Queen of the Court divisions (round robin partners) as well as divisions in Mixed and Men’s Centurion. Dylan Pruitt, who was recently selected to the 2020-21 U.S. National Junior Racquetball Team, won all three events: King of the Court (both one and three wall) as well as Mixed Doubles Pro/Open with partner Amie Brewer. Kudos to Maddie Melendez and Thao Le for their hard work in putting on the event.

The CVRA is in the process of surveying our members to determine which clubs are open for racquetball and in what manner: singles, doubles, mandatory masks, etc. People are looking to play indoors as the weather turns cooler.

Working in conjunction with Mauricio Zelada and Formulaflow, we are creating CVRA shirts to strengthen the brand of our state association here in Virginia.

From the Board and players here in Virginia, we send our best to everyone as we move into the holiday season.
