2020-21 U.S. National Junior Team Selection Process

June 02, 2020, 2:35 p.m. (ET)

Dear USA Racquetball Family,

While USA Racquetball intended (per usual) to conduct the 2020 USAR Junior National Championships to name the 2020-21 U.S. National Junior Team, unfortunate circumstances beyond our control changed that plan. It is uncertain whether the team will have the opportunity to attend an IRF World Junior Championships, but we still feel it is important to name our team.

Knowing that a creative approach would be needed to appropriately and fairly accomplish this initiative without a qualifier competition, the U.S. Team Committee and the USAR Board of Directors have approved an alternative plan for selecting the team.

The process will include:

  • Consideration of past competitive results at various racquetball events
  • An application that will include a number of "essay-type" questions
  • Video analysis: competition footage, drills, training, workouts, etc.

These components will be evaluated by a group to be comprised of the current US Junior Team coaches as well as several other qualified individuals who will support the coaches throughout the process.

Without spelling out all of the details in this letter, we are beginning the selection process without delay! The first step for all junior athletes interested in submitting an application for consideration is to send an email with the following:

  • Name, Birthdate (mm/dd/yyyy), Gender
  • City, State
  • Parent or Guardian Name
  • Parent or Guardian Email Address and Phone Number

This email is simply for the junior athlete to make contact and declare his/her intention to apply for a spot, for either the World Cup Team (18-, 16-, 14-) or the Esprit Team (12-, 10-). Once that communication is received, the junior athlete and parent/guardian will receive communication with detailed instructions for next steps.

Deadline: Friday, June 12, 2020

Email to both addresses:

Regardless of whether or not an athlete has been a member of the U.S. National Junior Team in the past, ALL juniors must participate in this process to be considered for the 2020-21 U.S. National Junior Team.

Please help spread the word of this process. This letter will also be sent to all State Association Presidents.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from all junior athletes who wish to apply.
