USA RACQUETBALL ANNOUNCES 2019 ELECTION CYCLE RESULTS

Colorado Springs, Colorado -- The USA Racquetball Election Committee, chaired by Terry Rogers, announced today the results from the 2018-2019 election cycle. Current Board members Thurman Brooks, Cheryl Kirk, and Dan Whitley will be rejoining the Board to serve three-year terms, the second for each.

Three seats were coming available in this election cycle, and the solicitation process began November 5, 2018, with announcements on the USA Racquetball website and Facebook and via emails to members outlining the process, requirements, and deadlines. Follow-up notifications were sent November 14th and 26th. While the Election Committee anticipated there would be a number of candidates who would like to try their hands at a run for the Board, at the deadline only the three above-mentioned candidates had applied to find a spot on the slate and move into the formal election process. Therefore, with three seats available and three individuals applying, there will be no formal election in March 2019. Thurman, Cheryl, and Dan will be installed as returning Board members at the Annual Board of Directors Meeting in May.

In their November statements of interest, Thurman, Cheryl, and Dan articulated their decisions to throw their hats into the ring once again:

“Imagine climbing half way up the hill, and not being able to finish the climb.  That is how I feel about my work with USA Racquetball. We have accomplished quite a bit, but our work here continues."

-- Thurman Brooks

“The more I know and understand about our sport, the more I can make a difference; it is my one and only desire in being this involved.  I want to see this sport be as meaningful in the lives of players for generations to come as it has been in mine.”

-- Cheryl Kirk

“It’s been an honor to represent the USA Racquetball Board and membership as Board President. We need to provide more support for club owners, state boards, outdoor racquetball, and tournament directors. I want to complete development of a national junior program to introduce racquetball to more kids around the country."

-- Dan Whitley

USA Racquetball's gratitude goes to Thurman, Cheryl, and Dan on their willingness to support USA Racquetball and their dedication to the sport and its players.

We invite and encourage USA Racquetball members to consider Board service when the next cycle opens in October/November 2019. Another way to become involved is to join a committee of interest.
