USA Pentathlon selects 2020 World Cup Team on Road to Tokyo

San Luis Obispo, California-Cal Poly University provided the setting for the final selection competition for the 2020 World Cup season last week in San Luis Obispo, California. 

Amidst the vinyards and rolling hills of California’s central coast, veteran athletes, Samantha Shultz and Amro El Geziry both members of the US Army’s World Class Athlete Program  (WCAP) took top honors in the final selection for the 2020 World Cup series enroute to the Tokyo Olympic games. 

In the women’s division Littleton Colorado native, Shultz led a distinguished group of athletes with 2016 Olympian and WCAP member, Isabella Isaksen Colorado Springs, CO. finishing second and 2019 Pan Am Games medalist, Jess Davis NY, New York in third. Rounding out the top finishers were Youth Olympic games veteran and US Air Force officer, Anna Olesinski in fourth and Temple University’s Naomi Ross in fifth. 

In the men’s division, three-time Olympian Amro El Geziry held off an outstanding performance by rookie Barrett Celecki of Barnveld, NY in  second place while Colorado Springs native and 2019 Pan Am Games medalist Brendan Anderson finished third. Tyler Evans, also of Barnveld, NY was fourth and Sam Ruddock, Cleveland , Ohio finished fifth. 

The next stop on the road to Tokyo 2020 for these athletes will be the first UIPM World Cup in Cairo , Egypt February 25-March 1. Athletes earn points throughout the spring of 2020 to qualify for the Tokyo Games August 6-8, 2020.
