Isabella Isaksen (L) and Amro Elgeziry celebrate their mixed relay silver medal at the UIPM Pentathlon World Cup on March 30, 2018 in Los Angeles.

Amro Elgeziry and Isabella Isaksen are a successful duo in life and in competition, as the married couple took home the silver medal in the mixed relay at the UIPM Pentathlon World Cup on Friday in Los Angeles.

The U.S. duo led after swimming, the first leg of competition, and never fell out of the top three en route to 1,417 points and the silver medal. Italy won gold with 1,433 points, and Mexico was third with 1,393 points.

Elgeziry, 31, is a three-time Olympian and native of Egypt who made his debut competing for the U.S. this week. He and Isaksen, who made her Olympic debut in modern pentathlon at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, are both hoping to compete for the U.S. in Tokyo in 2020. They are both part of the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program, designed to support and provide training assistance to soldiers competing in national and international events.

“We're pleased with second place,” Elgeziry said. “We enjoyed today, our first time to compete together for USA. It was like a dream for us to do this and hopefully we will do it again.”

Elgeziry and Isaksen each plan to compete in the 2018 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships in Mexico City and the Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru, later this year.

Elgeziry competed in pentathlon at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games for Egypt, finishing 32nd, 33rd and 25th. Isaksen, the younger sister of three-time Olympian Margaux Isaksen, was 24th in Rio.

Both athletes made their respective individual finals earlier this week, with Elgeziry finishing ninth and Isaksen 22nd.
