Legendary Pentathlon Fencing Coach Kaj Czarnecki Passes

San Antonio, TX - Coach Kaj Czarnecki (81) passed away Saturday January 13, 2018 at his assisted living facility in San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his daughter Monica Czarnecki, his grandson Alden Ekkelenkamp, his sister Marita Palmgren, and his ex-wife Mona Khoury-Hoopfer. He was preceded in death by his mother Majlis Tackman, and his father Karl Boris Czarnecki. Memorial service will be held at the Georgian Club House, 4801 N. New Braunfels, San Antonio, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on February 3, 2018.  He was an engineer who built homes in Africa, and later as an engineer at the San Antonio City Water Works.  He finished in the top 5 of the epee fencing competition at the 1960 Olympic Games and he spent many years working as the Fencing Coach for the US Modern Pentathlon team coaching numerous, national, world and Olympic Champions.
