U.S. Takes 6th in Mixed Relay at World Championships

The American duo of Samantha Achterberg (Littleton, Colo.) and Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas) finished sixth in the 12-team field on Wednesday during the mixed relay portion of the UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Championships in Rome, Italy. The U.S. team was seventh in the fencing event, 10th in the swim, third in the ride and sixth in the combined run/shoot for a total of 5,548 points.

The team from Ukraine won the competition with 6,064 points, followed by Russia with 6,052 points and China with 5,988 points.

The individual events begin tomorrow with the women's qualification round. Achterberg will be in action along with teammates Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.), Mickey Kelly (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md.).
