World Cup #3 Opens in Hungary

The third World Cup event of the 2012 season got off to a chilly start on Thursday in Szazhalombatta, Hungary. A temperature of 12 celsius greeted the women's qualification round where the top 12 finishes in each of the three qualification groups would advance to Saturday's final round.

The U.S. team was unable to crack the top 12 in any of the groups. Mickey Kelly (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top American finisher in 18th place in Group C. She finished with 3736 points, including a 5th-place finish in the combined run/shoot with a time of 12:33.04.

In Group A, Rendy Opdycke (Los Angeles, Calif.) placed 20th with 3696 points, which included the third-fastest time in the swim (2:11.43).

Competing in her first World Cup of the year and striving to get back in form after a recent illness, Olympian Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) placed 20th in Group B with 3744 points.

 Suzanne Stettinius(Parkton, Md.) also competed in Group C with Kelly and did not compete in the combined event. Stettinius finished with 1944 points.

Friday's action features the men's qualification round. The U.S. team will consist of Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas), Will Brady (Howell, Mich.), Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo.) and Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.).

Fans around the world will have the chance to watch these and other great athletes live and share in the excitement of Modern Pentathlon. UIPM will broadcast the finals live on Pentathlon TV at pentathlon.org on April 14-15.  The broadcast will feature the ride, combined event and medal ceremony live and highlights of the fencing and swimming. 

The Hungarian World Cup is the third in a series of five events in the coming two months which will culminate in the World Cup final to be held in Chengdu, China on 26-27 May 2012.
