World's Best Head to Hungary for World Cup #3

April 11, 2012, 7:31 p.m. (ET)

With the two American World Cups now completed, the world's best all-around athletes now head to Százhalombatta, Hungary, for Modern Pentathlon's World Cup #3 to be held April 12-15.

A massive field of 180 athletes are making the trip to Hungary, as they battle for World Cup Series points in order to qualify for the lucrative World Cup Final in Chengdu, China, which could be the key for their 2012 Olympic Qualification.

The U.S. contingent for this week’s World Cup consists of three athletes from the 2008 Olympic Team and two who have already qualified for the 2012 Games.

The men’s team is comprised of Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas), Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.), Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo.) and Will Brady (Howell, Mich.), while the women’s squad is made up of Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.), Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md.), Michelle Kelly (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Rendy Opdycke (Los Angeles, Calif.).

Sacksen, Bremer and Isaksen were all members of the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2008 Beijing Games, while Isaksen and Bowsher have already qualified for the London Games by virtue of their finishes at the 2011 Pan American Games.

Isaksen is making her first World Cup appearance of the season after battling through a recent illness. In her absence, Kelly stepped up and qualified for the final round of the first World Cup held in Charlotte, North Carolina, in February, while Stettinius is coming off a silver-medal performance at the NORCECA Championships in Guatemala two weeks ago.

Fans around the world will have the chance to watch these and other great athletes live and share in the excitement of Modern Pentathlon. UIPM will broadcast the finals live on Pentathlon TV at pentathlon.org on April 14-15.  The broadcast will feature the ride, combined event and medal ceremony live and highlights of the fencing and swimming.

The Hungarian World Cup is the third in a series of five events in the coming two months which will culminate in the World Cup final to be held in Chengdu, China on 26-27 May 2012.

Competition Schedule:
