Eli Bremer Snags Final Spot in World Championship Finals as the USA’s Chances of Qualifying Two Pentathletes for the 2008 Olympic Games Take a Hit as Bowsher and Sacksen Fail to Qualify for Final

July 15, 2008, 2:09 p.m. (ET)
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 30, 2008) - Similar to yesterday's women's semifinal round, today's men's semifinal was not kind to the U.S. as Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo./Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) was the only U.S. male to qualify for Sunday's final, snagging the final spot in the finals. The World Championship hopes for the U.S. now rest on Bremer and Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark./Colorado Springs, Colo.) who will compete in tomorrow's women's final.

The chances for the U.S. to qualify two men for the 2008 Olympic Games in modern pentathlon took a serious hit today as both Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas/Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) and Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa./Colorado Springs, Colo.) failed to qualify for the final, thus earning no ranking points for this event. Niul Manske (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army), the final U.S. athlete to compete in this year's World Championships, also failed to qualify for the finals. Bremer will receive his invitation to the 2008 Olympic Games on Sunday, June 1 based on his gold medal performance at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other U.S. men must await the final ranking list to see if they will be invited to compete at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China this August.
