LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - In addition to celebrating the nomination of 10 athletes heading to compete in Pyeongchang in February, USA Luge heard more good news from its primary sponsor Norton/Saint-Gobain. The company will extend its support of the team through another quadrennial period, through the Games in Beijing, which will take place in February of 2022.

“The coaches and athletes of the USA Luge are dedicated, hardworking and share the same attributes of the 3,000 employees who manufacture Norton products, a brand of Saint-Gobain Abrasives in North America,” said Brad Johnson, vice president of Saint-Gobain Abrasives North America. “We are honored to support the efforts of all those involved in helping these athletes achieve their dreams and we are pleased to announce our continued commitment with the renewal of our sponsorship through the 2022 Games.”

The news was received with great fanfare in front of athletes, coaches, officials and family members.

Norton/Saint-Gobain has been supporting USA Luge for almost 40 years, but the partnership took a major step forward in 2009, when the company assumed the role of primary sponsor. Since then, the partnership has expanded beyond financial support to include technical assistance in making the team’s race sleds faster. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to reducing friction of steel runners on the ice, manufacturing sled components, understanding and analyzing data and more.

“Norton/Saint-Gobain have been fantastic partners. The technical expertise that they bring to the table, in addition to their much-needed financial support, is now and will continue to be key to our success,” said Jim Leahy, USA Luge CEO. “They have become a part of the USA Luge fabric and family. We are honored and thrilled to have their support for the next four years.”

USA Luge received more good news when Team Worldwide, the official cargo carrier of USA Luge, announced an extension of their sponsorship of the team through the next Games. The Winnsboro, Texas-based company is celebrating their 20th year of supporting the organization.

Not to be left out of the show of love for USA Luge, U.S. Venture, based in Appleton, Wisc., also renewed their support of the team. The company, an innovative leader in the distribution and marketing of energy, automotive and lubricant products in North America, joined the USA Luge sponsorship family in November of 2015. The new agreement will also support the team to Beijing in 2022.
