2014 PASO Olympic Festival

The Senior National team was in Tlaxcala, Mexico over the weekend for the first Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) Olympic Festival. The tournament was held on July 26th-27th with 17 countries from the Americas sending athletes to compete. Team USA sent eight athletes; Brandis Miyazaki, Cheryl Murphy, Gakuji Tozaki, Maxine Lisot, Mina Yamazaki, Sakura Kokumai, Tom Scott, and Tyler Wolfe. Director of Coaching, Tokey Hill, National Team Coach, John Limcaco, and National Team Lead, Brody Burns, were also in attendance for the event.
Day One saw two U.S. athletes make it onto the podium. Murphy took home bronze in Female Elite Kumite -68 Kg, and Kokumai took gold in Female Elite Kata. With Day Two came more success for the National Team as Tozaki snagged silver in Male Elite Kata, and Wolfe grabbed another gold in Female Elite Kumite -50 Kg. Overall, Team USA had a great showing in Tlaxcala, taking home four medals, and finishing second in the medal table. Congratulations to all the Senior National Team athletes on an outstanding performance, and good luck with your training as the World Championships approach!
