Below is a letter from USA Karate Director of Coaching Tokey Hill

Dear USA Karate Coaches;

As you enter into the final weeks of preparation for the 2013 USA National Karate Championships & US Team Trials, I wanted to take a brief moment to wish you and your athletes all the best. You and your athletes are the heart and soul of USA Karate. Without you, we would not be able to achieve the stellar performance that we've seen from both our Junior & Senior National Team in recent years.

Coming into this year's Nationals, We're fresh off a Second Place Overall finish at the Senior Pan American Championships. Our athletes brought home 2 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze. Team USA also made history in 2012 by qualifying 5 athletes for the World Games this July in Cali, Colombia & this year, we qualified 3 athletes for the World Combat Games in St. Petersburg, Russia later this year! All of this on top of two bronze medals ant the 2012 Senior World Karate Championships. USA Karate is so grateful to all of the club coaches that are producing the athletes on your National Teams. The National Coaches may be coaching them in the ring during the events, but you are the reason that they are great athletes. you're put in the time, energy, and dedication in that makes Team USA a strong power in the Karate world, and we appreciate all that you to to make  Team USA great!

I also want to let you know about some exciting changes that we're rolling out with the USA Karate Coaches Certification Program. We're implementing new material and making it easier that ever for you to be certified to coach your athletes on the floor. Remember that being a certified coach is the only way to receive access to staging, be eligible to receive elite division charts and of course, the only way to be able to coach your athletes on the competition floor.

The Level One (Introduction to Coaching) Course is now exclusively available ONLINE! That's Right, to receive the Level One Certification, you no longer need to sit through an 8 hour coaches course! In fact, during the events, we won't be offering the Level One course so we can focus on providing new and exciting content, so make sure you register at www.usakaratenationals.com before arriving in Greenville so you can have everything you need to get your coaches pass.

With the Level One Certification now online, we're proud to introduce the much anticipated Level Two (Associate Coach) Course at the 2013 National Championships! This course is going to focus on providing the next level of coaching instruction and will give you and your athletes more tools to continue your success. The course curriculum includes sport psycholog, long tern athlete development, models of teaching, concussion information, weight management, and more! Presentations will be made by both members of the USA Karate National Coaching Staff and members of the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Professional staff. In fact, as an added bonus, our partners at Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine  along with Greenville Health Systems will be hosting us at their state of the art facilities and will be providing transportation and lunch for all! We'll have the transportation and time details out soon, but you won't want to miss this fresh, new information that is guaranteed to be a benefit to you and your fellow coaches!

I'm excited to see all of you in the coming weeks and to see your athletes demonstrate the peak performances that are available because of the training they receive from you. You are most assuredly part of the Team Behind the Team and critical part of our success. We wouldn't be able to represent the USA so well without you, and i'm proud to call you one of my colleagues. I hope to see you in Greenville and hope you'll join me in the exciting time for the USA Karate Coaches Certification Program!

Good Luck to All
