USA Judo Statement on Social Injustice & Support of Black and Minority Communities
USA Judo firmly believes that racism, discrimination or harassment of any kind is absolutely intolerable and is in violation of the basic freedoms and principles on which the United States was founded. These atrocities are also contrary to judo’s moral code which includes the values of respect, courtesy, friendship, honesty, courage, honor, modesty and self-control.
USA Judo strongly supports its past and present black judokas and its diverse membership in eradicating the injustices of systemic violence and unnecessary use of lethal force due to racial prejudices.
As we know from judo, every action causes a reaction. USA Judo strives to react to our nation’s recent tragedies by promoting judo’s culture of “mutual benefit and welfare” to positively impact society through actions encouraging diversity, acceptance and equality both on and off the tatami. In judo, as in life, we can only improve by working together.
