Feb. 07, 2020, 4:41 p.m. (ET)

USA Judo will be represented by elite athletes all over Europe this weekend with three major competitions. Top 2020 Olympic hopefuls and senior elite level athletes will be in France competing in the Paris Grand Slam. Senior visually impaired and 2020 Paralympic hopefuls will be in Heidelberg, Germany for the German Open for the Visually Impaired. The next generation of Olympic hopefuls will be in Vejle, Denmark at the Danish Cup Open which will see competition in the Under-15, Under-18, Under-21 and Senior age categories for male and female.

The 2020 Paris Grand Slam will be held February 8-9 at the AccorHotels Arena of Bercy. Top USA Judo Olympic contender and 2016 Olympian, Angelica Delgado is expected to see her first tournament action of 2020 leading a nine member women’s squad. Coming off of a seventh place performance at the Tel Aviv Grand Slam in Israel, Colton Brown (2016 Olympian and top ranked USA male) will lead the 11 member men’s team.

“We’re hoping for good results in this second Grand Slam event of the year,” said Coach Jhonny Prado.   “Paris is one of the bigger Grand Slams around; the whole environment, the crowd, the venue, the level of the judo; it is one of the biggest events of the year, especially this year given the qualification points available for the Olympics.  The kids have been training hard going to Austria and then Israel for training camps and the Tel Aviv Grand Slam, so they are ready.  We’re looking for success.”
