2019 Mayo Quanchi Winter Training Camp Recap

Athletes from all over the country attended the 2019 Mayo Quanchi Winter Training Camp this past weekend.

It was well attended, with over 200 athletes, from 18 different states, ages 6-40 years old. The states include: Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, California, Nevada, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania and the Bahamas.

“We have been running this camp every year since 2002 and every year it grows in size and quality,” explained Serge Bouyssou, Head Coach at Mayo Quanchi. “We had almost a 50-50 ratio men and women! There were dozens of national champions on the mat.”

The training sessions were led by Serge Bouyssou, Joe Marchal (Olympian, 1988), Younes Jemni, Grace Jividen (Olympian, 1992), and Shinjiro Sasaki. Other Olympians and Paralympians who attended were German Velasco (Olympian, 2000) and Benjamin Goodrich (Paralympian, 2016).
