World Judo Day

Sept. 29, 2017, 7:09 p.m. (ET)

The International Judo Federation will host the sixth annual World Judo Day on Saturday, October 28, 2017. The World Judo Day takes place on the same date every year, as October 28th is the birthday of Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo.

The World Judo Day is our showcase of the sport’s values and our spirit, as judo is more than just a sport. Judo is an educational tool that can help people to live together and to respect one another. The objective is to increase the number of judo players around the world and to help change people’s lives with the power of judo.

USA Judo wants to celebrate World Judo Day here in the United States! We encourage all clubs and members to get involved to help spread unity across our nation through the sport of judo.

World Judo Day is an opportunity for judo lovers to share experiences and promote the sport in their community through activities such as demonstrations, inter-club training sessions, and ‘taster’ sessions.

In the spirit of World Judo Day, we ask that all USA Judo Clubs open their doors to their local communities on the week of October 23, 2017 - October 29, 2017, allowing those interested to explore the sport of judo without any associated fees. We also encourage USA Judo members to invite a friend to judo class on World Judo Day and give them an opportunity try out the sport you love.

If you are a USA Judo club interested in participating in World Judo Day, please contact cara.fasciani@usajudo.us. Upon commitment, you will receive a liability waiver that athletes are required to fill-out and sign.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
