Dear 2017 US Open & Cadet Junior Judo Championships Participants,
Thank you very much for your attendance at the 2017 US Open & Cadet Junior Judo Championships held in Fort Lauderdale, FL, July 21-23, 2017 was the 29th anniversary of this tournament which was enjoyed by more than 800 participants.
Please find the competition results here: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Judo/Results/2017/July/21/2017-US-Open-Judo-Championships .
Also, members of USA Judo’s Board of Directors, Serge Bouyssou and Gerry Navarro recognized and supported the United States’ World University Games Team and National Collegiate Judo Association by presenting Bob Perez with a check for $5,000 from the USA Judo Board of Directors.
After learning that the Pan American Judo Confederation would not award IJF Jr. points to USA Judo for its traditional International portion of the Junior Olympics weekend, US Open organizers Gerry and Melinda Navarro stepped up to host the PJC/IJF Jr. Points event at their US Open event due to the international interest and attendance the tournament has had over the years. Without the Navarro’s support, there would not be a Jr. IJF Points Event held in the United States this year. Despite best intentions to serve youth judoka, the combining of the traditional US Open Tournament and IJF Formats proved dysfunctional creating excessive waiting for registration, draws and weigh-ins and delays in the start of the tournament. To participants impacted by these challenges, please accept our sincere apologies and understand that any future blending of IJF Point Tournaments with Traditional Tournaments will be scrutinized before blending them again.
We hope that you will plan to attend the 30th Anniversary of the US Open next year in Fort Lauderdale.
Thank you for your support,
US Open Tournament Director
USA Judo Board Member
