Jaqueline and Joe Ragan competed for the first time together at this year's USA Judo President's Cup Championships on November 23rd at the Irving Convention Center. To prepare to compete at the national level, they trained together at four different dojos over the last year (1. Kokushi Dojo/Westwood, New Jersey - Sensei David Otani; 2. Ricardo Tuero Dojo/Miami, Florida - Sensei Ricardo Tuero; 3. Sport Judo/Springfield, Virginia - Sensei Maurice Allen, and 4. Kokushikai Dojo/Fair Lawn, New Jersey - Sensei Celita Shutz).  Sensei Adam from Salt Lake City’s Blackburn/USA Stars flew in to coach them both for the event.

The family duo fought hard; their efforts and discipline throughout the year was apparent as soon as they stepped on the mat; both father and daughter scored medals. Jaqueline took the Silver in the Bantam 3, 27 kg division and Joe took the Gold in both the Masters 5, 81 kg division and the 50 + Open division.

"It was the most special day of my Judo career.  Competing with my daughter was extraordinary.  I was very proud of her.  I hope more Masters athletes get the opportunity to compete along side their children.  A special thanks to all of the Sensei's that have taken a special interest in training us for the event." Said Joe.
