In the interest of allowing American Judoka the most opportunities to enhance their positions prior to the commencement of the 2020 Olympic Qualifying period that will begin May 15, 2018, USA Judo will suspend its current International Tournament Criteria/Policies for Grand Prix and Grand Slam events for the duration of the period before the beginning of the Olympic Qualifying (May 15, 2018). Effectively, the sole criterion for this period will be the same as that for Continental Opens: Athletes must be on the current "Elite Team Roster" to qualify for Continental Opens, as well as Grand Prix and Grand Slam events. Athletes with the best international ranking will have first right of refusal to attend competitions with limited registration slots. Commencing with, and throughout, the Olympic Qualifying Period, the currently posted USA Judo qualifying criteria will be reinstated and in force.

The sign-up period for January 1 - June 30, 2018 tournaments will be open from November 20 - December 8, 2017.
