Monthly stipends

Athletes receiving Direct Athlete Support stipends at the time of the below events will also have all expenses paid for at the events below:

July 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019 (Q3-Q4)
Tournaments and Camps

  2. Senior World Championships

  3. Brasilia Grand Prix

  4. Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

January 1, 2019 – March 31, 2019 (Q1)

From January 1 through March 31 of 2019, athletes will qualify for Direct Athlete Support stipends based on overall point totals from the IJF World Ranking List as of January 1, 2019 as outlined in the pay scale below:

  • Top US-ranked athlete in the IJF World Ranking List - $2,250/month for 3 months

  • Second highest US-ranked athlete in the IJF World Ranking List - $1,750/month for 3 months

  • Third highest US-ranked athlete in the IJF World Ranking List - $1,250/month for 3 months

  • Fourth and fifth highest US-ranked athletes in the IJF World Ranking List - $1,000/month for 3 months

April 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019 (Q2-Q4)

From April 1 through December 31 of 2019, athletes who are currently training/competing at the elite level will qualify for Direct Athlete Support stipends based on overall point totals from the current IJF Olympic Ranking List in three-month increments as of each quarterly review date (April 1, July 1 and October 1).

Athletes who are in position to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games (either directly qualified via top 18 without duplicates or meeting continental quota spot) as of each quarterly review date (April 1, July 1 and October 1) will be eligible for monthly stipends as follows*:

  • Athlete who is ranked #1 in points in the U.S. on the IJF Olympic Ranking List will be awarded $2,500/month for 3 months

  • Athlete who is ranked #2 in points in the U.S. on the IJF Olympic Ranking List will be awarded $1,750/month for 3 months

  • Athlete who is ranked #3 in points in the U.S. on the IJF Olympic Ranking List will be awarded $1,250/month for 3 months

Up to 2 additional athletes who are within 5 spots away (on the IJF Olympic Ranking List) from a qualifying position for the 2020 Olympic Games within each athlete’s respective weight class (as of April 1, July 1 and/or October 1, 2019) will be awarded as follows**:

  • Athlete who is ranked first highest in points in the U.S. on the Olympic Ranking list that is within 5 spots of a qualifying position in their respective weight class will be awarded $1,000/month for 3 months
  • Athlete who is ranked second highest in points in the U.S. on the Olympic Ranking list that is within 5 spots of a qualifying position in their respective weight class will be awarded $1,000/month for 3 months

* If there are multiple athletes who qualify for stipends who are in position to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games and are tied in IJF Olympic Ranking List points as of the review date(s), then the athlete with the higher individual ranking position on the IJF Olympic Ranking List in their respective weight class will be awarded the tie breaker.

** If there are multiple athletes who qualify for stipends by being within 5 spots away from a qualifying position for the 2020 Olympic Games and are tied in IJF Olympic Ranking list points as of the review date(s), then the athlete with the higher individual ranking position on the IJF Olympic Ranking list in their respective weight class will be awarded the tie breaker.

 

Eligible Tournaments for Funding (Non-Stipend Elite Athletes Only)***

*** Athletes must meet the below criteria 30 days before the event (January 1, 2019 - March 31, 2019 (Q1)):

  1. Top 25 on the IJF World Ranking List:
    1. Up to $1,000 for airfare

    2. Room and board

  2. Top 26 through 35 on the IJF World Ranking List:
    1. Up to $1,000 for airfare

*** Athletes must meet the below criteria 30 days before the event (April 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019 (Q2-Q4)): (updated: May 13, 2019)

  1. All athletes in a qualified position on the IJF Olympic Ranking List (ORL) will be fully funded

  2. Top 25 on the IJF Olympic Ranking List:
    1. Up to $1,000 for airfare

    2. Room and board

  3. Top 26 through 35 on the IJF Olympic Ranking List:
    1. Up to $1,000 for airfare

For any athlete(s) receiving up to $1,000 for airfare - only round trip airfare to and from the event will be funded or reimbursed unless discussed and approved by USA Judo prior to the trip.

 

Non-Stipend Elite Athletes Performance Incentive Funding

Athlete International A-Level Incentive Pool – Grand Slam Events

Silver:     $1,000
Bronze:   $750
5th:         $500

European Continental Opens / Grand Prix Events / Pan American Championships

Gold:      $1,000
Silver:     $750
Bronze:   $500
5th:         $250

To be eligible for performance incentive funding, all athletes must win a minimum of three matches, no byes, no walkovers, no round robins.

Exception for IJF Masters – As only the Top 16 athletes are invited to participate in this event, it will be the only tournament in which all athletes must win a minimum of two matches, no byes, no walkovers, no round robins, to be eligible for performance incentive funding.
