Courtney Titus - Field Hockey Gold Award Project

Growing the Game inSan Marcos, Calif.

I’ve been a Girl Scout since kindergarten. Recently I bridged to Ambassador and for my Gold Award Project I decided to combine two of my passions together, field hockey and working with younger kids. With the help of family, friends, teammates, my coach and USA Field Hockey I was able to host a free two-day clinic at my high school. Both girls and boys from middle and upper elementary schools in our community were allowed to attend. We had over 40 participants register to attend one or both days of the clinic. At this clinic my teammates, coach and I introduced people to the sport of field hockey and basic skills to help them begin their journey through field hockey. Before my clinic there was no advertising or promoting of the sport to anyone until high school, so I targeted younger grades in order to spread awareness to people who haven’t had the opportunity to play. I’m happy to announce that high school team tryouts started this year and 22 incoming freshman from my clinic are continuing to play and improve their field hockey skills in high school!
