What is FUNdamental Field Hockey?

FUNdamental Field Hockey is USA Field Hockey's youth development initiative designed to expose field hockey to thousands of children nationwide by providing free field hockey equipment grants and emphasizing fun physical activity!  

Since the program’s inception in 2012, USA Field Hockey has partnered with Harrow Sports to provide more than 1,000 FUNdamental Field Hockey grants to schools, clubs and other multi-sport organizations across the country. Together we can grow the game, apply today! 

Who can apply?

Teachers, coaches, players, parents, administrators and anyone else that wants to introduce field hockey to their local community can apply for the grant.


When are applications reviewed?

Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis, dates are listed below.

Do I need to be a USA Field Hockey Member?

A USA Field Hockey Membership is not required to apply for the grant.

While a membership is not required to apply, USA Field Hockey is confident that you will want to join! Becoming a USA Field Hockey Member is one of the best ways to get started with the sport and become part of the USA Field Hockey Family. A USA Field Hockey Membership provides valuable benefits, supports the growth and development of field hockey across the country, supports the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams and more!   



What is included in the FUNdamental Field Hockey Grant?

  • 24 Sticks (Plastic or Wood)
  • 24 Balls (Standard or GO Balls)

Plastic or Wood?

Plastic sticks are the perfect equipment for physical education classes and can be used by kids that are looking to embark on their field hockey journey. Plastic sticks are available in four different sizes: 24”, 28”, 32” and 36”. Plastic sticks are recommended for indoor and outdoor use with the GO Balls. Plastic sticks are not recommended for play with a standard field hockey ball.

Wood sticks are the perfect beginner sticks for indoor and outdoor play with a GO Ball or a standard field hockey ball. Wood sticks are available in six different sizes: 26”, 28”, 30”, 32”, 34” and 36."
