Because field hockey is so popular and widely played in New Jersey, it has its own region. It's one of just three one-state regions in the country, sharing the fact with Pennsylvania and New York. Region 6: New Jersey has a long history of tradition in the sport, with many strong middle school, high school, collegiate programs, clubs and adult leagues. It takes talented coaches and dedicated umpires to support the sport, and New Jersey is home to many. Both indoor and outdoor field hockey are very popular in New Jersey, and many U.S. National Team athletes have fallen in love with the game and developed in Region 6.
