How do I determine what age division I am eligible for at USA Field Hockey National Events?

For Events in 2018:

Your age for the entire calendar year of 2018 is determined by how old you are on or before December 31, 2017. Let’s break it down by birth year for you. Find your birth year and identify it with the corresponding age division you are eligible for.

  • U-10 | 2008-2009
  • U-12 | 2006-2007
  • U-14 | 2004-2005
  • U-16 | 2002-2003
  • U-19 |1999-2001

All athletes may play up one whole age division at USA Field Hockey National and Sanctioned Events. If a qualifier event for 2018 takes place in 2017 you must play in the age division that corresponds with your age on or before December 31, 2017.

For Events in 2019:

Your age for the entire calendar year of 2019 is determined by how old you are on or before December 31, 2018. Let’s break it back down by birth year for you. Find your birth year and identify it with the corresponding age division you are eligible for:

  • U-10 | 2009-2010
  • U-12 | 2007-2008
  • U-14 | 2005-2006
  • U-16 | 2003-2004
  • U-19 |2000-2002

All athletes may play up one age division at USA Field Hockey National Events and Sanctioned Events. If a qualifier event for 2019 takes place in 2018 you must play in the age division that corresponds with your age on or before December 31, 2018.

I play as a U-14 or U-16 player, why can’t I find these memberships?

The U-12 or U-19 designation on athletes' memberships is strictly a USA Field Hockey Membership category (as is adult, coach and umpire). This does not affect an athlete's age-group classification for playing. If an athlete is under-12 on the day of purchasing a membership, he/she is required to have a U-12 Membership, and if an athlete is under-19 and over-12, he/she is required to have a U-19 Membership.

If I am under 19 can I still play with my club in a tournament after I’ve played in college?

Yes, as long as you meet the age requirement and still have an active USA Field Hockey Membership you are allowed to go to an event with your club. Even if you are currently a NCAA Field Hockey player.
