COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey has made the decision to cancel the inaugural 2021 National Indoor Festival (NIF), presented by YOLO Sportswear. This event, which was set to provide additional playing opportunities for all during the indoor season, was to take place Saturday, February 13 to Monday, February 15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
“We understand the uncertainty that surrounds clubs traveling at this moment,” said Simon Hoskins, USA Field Hockey’s Executive Director. “In a normal year, there are over 100 teams who would like to play in and experience the National Indoor Tournament (NIT) but can’t due to space limitations, so we started the National Indoor Festival to provide more opportunities. This year, we are able to accommodate almost all teams in the NIT, and therefore we will hold off on launching the NIF until 2022. We believe the NIF will be a really fun and competitive tournament for all ages and genders in years to come, so please plan to join us next year.”
The NIF was modeled after the National Hockey Festival, where different age divisions have the opportunity to gather over a weekend in the same location to compete and enjoy the sport. The divisions that were to be offered were U-12 Co-Ed, U-14 Girls, U-16 Girls, U-19 Girls, as well as a Men and Women divisions. Although the 2021 edition has been canceled, this event will be held in February 2022 in Virginia Beach, Va.
All clubs who were registered for the National Indoor Festival were notified by phone and email and have been invited to place their teams in the respective age groups at the National Indoor Tournament held at Spooky Nook Sports and Greater Richmond Convention Center. Teams that choose not to accept placement in those tournaments will be refunded in full. Hotel reservations made through USA Field Hockey’s travel partner, Team Travel Source, will be canceled and refunded. Team Travel Source will take care of cancelling the hotels, please do not reach out to the hotels directly.
