COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - October 26, 2020 - USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce the dates and some key presenters for the 2020 National Coaches Forum (NCF), presented by AstroTurf. Normally, NCF brings coaches together in a live, in-person setting with on-field and classroom presentation but due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this year will mark the first time this event will be held virtually. It is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, December 8 to Thursday, December 10 as well as Saturday, December 12. In 2020, USA Field Hockey’s Coach Education and Learning Department is excited to offer coaches the opportunity to meet, listen and engage with world class speakers virtually in the comfort of one’s own home.
While the NCF will center around an array of speakers from across the globe, USA Field Hockey is especially excited to introduce the newly appointed U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Anthony Farry and USWNT Assistant Coach Greg Drake. Farry and Drake will speak on two occasions about video and player development and the critical success factors in program planning.
“We are delighted to introduce U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Anthony Farry to our Coach Members during the NCF,” said Craig Parnham, USA Field Hockey’s Director of Coach Education and Learning. “Anthony joins USA Field Hockey with a wealth of international coaching experience. We look forward to hearing his thoughts on how he will build the team culture on and off the field and learning more about his coaching and playing philosophies.”
“We are really excited to be hosting our first-ever ‘virtual’ National Coaches Forum,” continued Parnham. “The very nature of online delivery allows us to reach all corners of the world both in presentations and participants. We’ve lined up a fantastic group of presenters we believe will bring value to our coach members and the wider sporting community.”
Check out the detailed schedule along with list of presenters. Among the confirmed presenters includes former England Rugby coach Stuart Lancaster, who took the England Team to the World Cup in 2015. Lancaster has faced some harsh ups and downs and will share valuable lessons of leadership, management and identity learned from working with High Performance teams. John Crawley, United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s High Performance Director of Team Sports, with more than 20 years of experience, will offer best practices having worked with some of the world’s greatest sporting teams.
The 2020 National Coaches Forum will also feature Olympic legends and coaches Tracey Fuchs (two-time Olympian and Northwestern University Head Coach), Katie Bam (two-time Olympian and University of Maryland Associate Head Coach), Max Caldas (two-time Olympian with Argentina, three-time Olympic coach and current Netherlands Men’s National Team Head Coach), Pietie Coetzee-Turner (three-time Olympian and University of Massachusetts Assistant Coach) and Adam Commens (Belgium Hockey High-Performance Director and Australia Olympic Bronze medalist).
A presentation by Tamika "Mimi" Smith (former USWNT athlete, Treatment Placement Specialist and Reach FHC Owner) and Imani Ruffin (ID&E Training and Development Consultant and Sistas With Sticks Field Hockey Owner) will provide insight into the Mental Health Concerns and Considerations for Black Athletes.
These field hockey experts will share their insights and provide specific tactical presentations for the sport. Goalkeeping topics will be covered by Steve Bayer, Belgium Goalkeeper Coach. Parnham will present in a unique fashion this year by having registrants submit questions prior to the event. He will then address the questions shared during a special one-hour presentation.
