COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – May 1, 2020 – As the nation and world continue to face uncertainty during this pandemic, the health and well-being of all members and field hockey families remains USA Field Hockey’s primary concern. In reviewing the needs of member clubs and the current federal, state and local restrictions, USA Field Hockey has made the difficult decision to amend the summer regional and national event offerings as outlined below:
Regional Club Championships (RCC), presented by Harrow Sports, and National Club Championship (NCC), presented by Harrow Sports
Unfortunately, current restrictions make it impossible for the RCC tournaments to take place in their scheduled timeframe. Therefore, in the interest of safety and fairness to all clubs, USA Field Hockey is making the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Regional Club Championships and National Club Championship. All registered clubs have been notified.
Summer Bash at the Beach, presented by YOLO Sportswear
Summer Bash at the Beach is traditionally exclusively for the U-10, U-12 and U-14 age divisions. Club priorities and consensus from members helped shape USA Field Hockey’s decision to cancel the Summer Bash at the Beach and instead explore the possibility of a tournament inclusive to broader age groups. All registered clubs have been notified.
Back to Hockey Celebration
USA Field Hockey is exploring the possibility of a Back to Hockey Celebration in July at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. This event would be open to all members who are able and interested in attending, assuming federal, state and local restrictions are lifted. USA Field Hockey will be conducting another survey of member clubs to develop the tournament format and divisions.
Regional Futures Camps and National Futures Championship, presented by Harrow Sports
USA Field Hockey is planning to hold Regional Futures Camps in all regions in late June if possible, with the National Futures Championship scheduled to be held in July at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Additional information on locations and dates will be provided to Futures athletes and families as soon as it is available.
AAU Junior Olympic Games
The 2020 AAU Junior Olympic Games is still scheduled to take place August 2 to 6 at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The AAU is also monitoring government guidelines closely and is taking feedback from USA Field Hockey and other participating organizations to determine whether the AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held as scheduled. USA Field Hockey traditionally invites U-16 players identified at National Futures Championship to compete at this event for additional selection opportunities. USA Field Hockey is assessing the format in hopes the tournament will be held.
Young Women’s National Championship
USA Field Hockey and the women’s High Performance coaching staff decided to postpone the scheduled High Performance Centers and Young Women’s National Championship. Participating athletes have been notified.
USA Field Hockey would like to thank all members and sponsors for their support as the organization works through the myriad of uncertainties. Safety, health and well-being is one of the core values, and USA Field Hockey wishes you and your families, and the entire field hockey family, good health at this challenging time. For additional and most updated information, visit USA Field Hockey’s COVID-19 Updates website by clicking here.
