Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll College Rankings: Week of September 10

Middlebury voted No. 1 in Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll

GILBERT, Ariz. - September 10, 2019 - With three wins under their belt, the Middlebury College Panthers came in at No. 1 in the first week of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. In their opening week, the Panthers put away 20 goals and allowed only one in 180 minutes of field hockey.

 

The Top Five
Rounding out the top five this week are No. 2 Rowan University, No. 3 Tufts University, No. 4 Salisbury University and No. 5 The College of New Jersey.

No. 4 Salisbury joined the top five after a 4-0 start and an important win over No. 7 Messiah College. No. 5 TCNJ climbed one spot after two resounding wins at Catholic University and Juniata College.


Moving Up
Making the biggest climbs this week are No. 9 Bowdoin College and No. 13 Ursinus College.

The Bowdoin Polar Bears moved six spots to No. 9 after two wins over the University of New England and No. 17 Amherst College - they were ranked 15th in the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA poll. Also climbing six spots, Ursinus College landed at No. 13 after an exciting opening campaign with a double-overtime loss to No. 2 Rowan and wins over No. 7 Messiah College and William Smith College.


Games to Watch
Saturday, September 14 will feature top-20 games between No. 17 Amherst and No. 19 Hamilton College at 11:00 a.m. ET and between No. 7 Messiah and No. 5 TCNJ at 1:00 p.m. ET.

No. 1 Middlebury will face two top-ranked opponents this weekend - the Panthers will visit No. 9 Bowdoin for an 11:00 a.m. ET contest on Saturday and No. 18 Babson College for a noon match-up on Sunday.

In other Sunday games, No. 14 University of Rochester will travel to No. 3 Tufts for a noon ET pushback, while No. 12 Christopher Newport University will take on Centre College - who received 55 points this week - in a neutral-site contest in Mequon, Wisconsin at noon CT.
