Multiple Coach Education Offerings Coming to the East and West Coast in December

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – November 7, 2019 – USA Field Hockey's Coach Education and Learning department has confirmed a list of offerings coming in December to California, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. There are additional Coach Education offerings that will take place following the 2019 California Field Hockey Symposium, presented by AstroTurf.

Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinics
USA Field Hockey’s Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinics are 14-hour offerings that expand on several of the topics covered in the Level 1 clinic and will challenge participants to further define and evaluate their individual coaching philosophies, styles, techniques and encourage self-assessment. Additionally, coaches will work in groups to share best practices and receive peer feedback in a comfortable and encouraging environment.

Saturday, December 7 (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Sunday, December 8 (8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Coaching Field Hockey: the USA Way – Click Here to Learn More Information
All levels of coaches, those brand-new to field hockey through experienced professionals, are invited to join this workshop that will be led by Craig Parnham, USA Field Hockey’s Director of Coach Education and Learning and five-time Olympian as an athlete and coach, and Phil Edwards, USA Field Hockey’s Senior Manager of Coaching and Performance. This 3-hour workshop will focus on coaching the USA Way, incorporating best principles of coaching and core values. Topics will include:

  • Practical application of technical and tactical skills
  • Best practices of coaching, including philosophy and the GROW model and CHANGE IT principles
  • Applying the American Development Model (ADM) and games-based, learner-centered principles
  • Coaching in the Futures Program, a brief review of the 2019-20 Futures and Junior High Performance Curriculum, ensuring that all USA Field Hockey Futures Coaches are prepared to deliver a fun, learner-centered development and training experience for all male and female Futures participants

Umpire Education Workshop

Umpiring field hockey is fun and a great way to earn some extra cash while supporting the growth of the sport. No experience is needed! USA Field Hockey’s Director of Umpiring Steve Horgan will provide an introduction to field hockey umpiring. 

Topics will include how to get started, the basic skills and rules, blowing the whistle and signals, umpire cooperation, penalty corners, managing the games, keeping the game safe, and rules application with video examples. This workshop is great for beginners and those looking to refresh your umpiring skills.

This clinic will include classroom and on-field activity. Registrants should wear athletic clothing and be ready for on-field learning.
