USA Field Hockey would like to congratulate Shruthika Padhy, a member of the Xplosive Hockey Club, who was crowned one of eight co-champions Thursday, May 30 in the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Reesort and Convention Center in Fort Washington, Md. In the 17th round of the 92nd annual event, with challenge words running low, it was announced that any contestant remaining after three more words would share in the ultimate prize. Eight spellers remained by that point and each one correctly spelled their final word in the 20th round. Padhy, who participated in the 2019 Sheetz National Indoor Tournament, presented by YOLO Sportswear, correctly spelled aiguillette to secure her spot as co-champion.

13-year-old Padhy of Cherry Hill, N.J. is no rookie to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She has participated each year since 2016 with her highest finish being 7th prior to Thursday night. This year's event featured 562 spellers with a $50,000 prize awaiting the winner. This year however, instead of an eight-way split, each co-champion will receive $50,000 plus their own trophy.

Congratulations once again to USA Field Hockey Member, Shruthika Padhy!
