SPRING CITY, Pa. – March 28, 2019 – Last weekend, more than 190 athletes attended the Junior and Senior U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Indoor Teams tryout at The Training Center in Spring City, Pa. The athlete pool consisted of men and women ranging in age from 11 to 61 from more than 19 different states, as well as Washington, D.C.

“We were extremely pleased over the weekend, not just with the incredible number of players trying out for the national indoor squads, but most important the quality of the play and the number of players who want to play for their country,” said Jun Kentwell, Indoor USWNT Head Coach.

At the joint two-day tryout athletes were assessed by seven evaluators in areas of game play, skills and vision exercises. Preliminary selection letters will go out to athletes within the next week. From there, call-back and alternate tryouts will happen at the first training weekend held April 27-28. Each squad selected will consist of 15 athletes, 12 field players and 3 goalkeepers.

Following the selections all squads of the Indoor USMNT and USWNT will train regularly from April to November. In December and January, the senior men’s and women’s teams will travel to Europe for a multi-nation indoor tournament. The junior and development men’s and women’s squads will compete at domestic tournaments throughout the year.

The focus of the coming year is to prepare for the Indoor Pan American Cup, which will be held in Pennsylvania in March 2020. Training weekends will be held each month from April through December on dates which will not conflict with the outdoor USMNT and USWNT Olympic Pipeline.

If an athlete who registered for the tryout was unable to attend the March 23-24 dates, please email Richard Kentwell at richard@wceagleshockey.com and indicate the reasoning on why you are unable to attend. There will be an invite-only tryout during the first training weekend on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. More information to follow.

Selections to the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Indoor Teams, U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Indoor Development Teams and U.S. U-15 Women’s National Indoor Team will be made following the first training weekend in April.

Applications are still being accepted for the volunteer Indoor USMNT Head Coach position until March 31. Interested individuals can apply by clicking here.
