June 14, 2019, 3:36 p.m. (ET)

LANCASTER, Pa. - June 14, 2019 - The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and USA Field Hockey will join together on Saturday, June 22 at the FIH Pro League game between the U.S. Women's National Team and Germany to celebrate Olympic Day, as well as the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect, through "Sticks for the World," an initiative that is a part of the FIH’s new global development program, Hockey4LIFE.

Hockey4LIFE supports field hockey development projects around the world by encouraging people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to start, play and stay in the game. One way to do this is to provide greater access to the sport by reducing the barrier to entry. Sticks for the World is an initiative to invite players to donate a new or used sticks which are then redistributed to those who may never have been exposed to the sport.

The U.S. Women's National Team's final home game in the FIH Pro League at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. will be an exciting and well attended event with athletes, coaches and families from the National Futures Championship (NFC), presented by Harrow Sports, in attendance. With that, both the FIH and USA Field Hockey invite the national team athletes from USA and Germany, NFC coaches and athletes, and all fans that are planning to attend to donate a new or used stick, of any size, to support the Sticks for the World initiative.

All donations will be accepted at the USA Field Hockey tent prior to the game. The equipment will then be collected and donated to help develop programs for boys and girls of all ages in California to help grow participation in advance of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Additionally, the FIH will provide four HockeyReady bags which will include balls, cones, pinnies and an activity book. Donations will also align with USA Field Hockey's American Development Model principles of providing age and size appropriate equipment to players. All donated youth size sticks will be donated to youth programs, along with the new oversized USA Field Hockey GO Ball. Finally, all donated adult sticks will be donated to high school and adult level programs.
