LANCASTER, Pa. - January 11, 2019 - USA Field Hockey is currently accepting applications for three volunteer coaching positions within the women’s Junior High Performance Program (JHP) for 2019-2020. The roles will provide successful applicants with the opportunity to work as a part of a coaching team, alongside USA Field Hockey JHP, U.S. Women’s National Team and Coach Education staff, to build an effective development environment for players in the Olympic Development Pipeline.

“We would not be able to provide the quality and quantity of JHP offerings without the commitment of those coaches who volunteer their time and expertise to the program,” said Phil Edwards, USA Field Hockey’s Senior Manager of Junior High Performance. “Of course, we hope that this is not a one-way street, and while these coaches help the players grow and improve, we also aim to provide opportunity for the coaches to further their understanding of the game, the coaching process and their own coaching philosophy.”

USA Field Hockey continues to develop its Coach Education Program under the guidance of Director of Coach Education and Learning, Craig Parnham, and believe that now is a great opportunity to implement more structured offerings within the Junior High Performance pipeline. The ideal candidates would be talented coaches that are keen to grow, learn and develop the sport at these levels.

All positions are responsible for the development and implementation of a high performance environment to support players to develop and become aware of the demands and needs of playing at an international level. This includes the introduction and development of hockey techniques, tactical training, competition and other training (including principles of psychology, nutrition and other performance enhancement tools).

These coaches will assist the USA Field Hockey JHP staff with evaluation and selection of the best athletes available to play on the Junior U.S. Women’s National Teams. Additionally, they will work with the high performance team to ensure effective integration of technical coaching and support services and communications across the Junior High-Performance Program.

“Hopefully, come 2024 and 2028, these coaches can watch Team USA, and players they have had the opportunity to support, perform in the Paris and Los Angeles Olympic Games with a great sense of satisfaction,” commented Edwards.
