College Rankings: Week of October 9

Updated rankings for the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coaches Polls for Divisions I, II and III have been released. Listed below are the Top 10 schools in each division. For a full detailed list of rankings, click the link below each corresponding division. The next Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Polls will be announced on Tuesday, October 16. The polls are voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Field Hockey Championships.

Division I:

After six weeks and 13 wins, the University of North Carolina continues their reign at the top of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. Last weekend, the Tar Heels continued their perfect record with two decisive wins over No. 16 Wake Forest University and No. 19 Liberty University. This week, they will face conference opponent No. 12 Boston College and No. 5 University of Connecticut.

Following closely behind the Tar Heels are the University of Maryland Terrapins who rank second in this week's poll. Despite a loss to No. 6 Penn State University this past weekend, the Terps still have a strong hold on second place with a 13-1 record.

Another upset win prompted Princeton University to move into third place this week - they defeated No. 5 University of Connecticut, 5-2, on Sunday.

This coming weekend promises to be another exciting one in the Division I field hockey world - 10 games will feature two top-25 teams.

Division II:

Last week's first-place tie was broken after West Chester University's 2-0 week - the Golden Rams defeated No. 9 Millersville University and Slippery Rock to improve to 7-1. They are followed on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll by No. 2 East Stroudsburg University who also went undefeated last week - the Warriors repeated their winning performance over No. 5 Shippensburg University and also defeated Mercyhurst University.

The two top teams are followed by No. 3 Stonehill College, No. 4 Merrimack College and No. 5 Shippensburg.

Five top-10 contests are slated to take place this week. Today will feature No. 2 ESU at No. 7 Bloomsburg University, No. 1 West Chester at No. 5 Shippensburg, and No. 6 Kutztown University at No. 9 Millersville.

Division III:

Middlebury College, still touting a perfect 10-0 record, held onto their first place rank on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll for another week. The No. 1 Panthers had an important win this week to keep them at the top spot - they defeated No. 3 Tufts in a tight, 2-1 overtime win on Sunday.

Closely following Middlebury, with their own undefeated record, is No. 2 Messiah College. The 11-0 Falcons had two wins last week, defeating Gettysburg College and conference opponent, Albright College. Tufts University and The College of New Jersey remain at three and four, respectively, for the fourth week in a row. They are followed by No. 5 Rowan University, who broke into the top-five for the first time this season. The Profs also are undefeated with 12 games in their win column.

This week will feature eight top-20 contests. The game to watch this week will be between conference and interstate rivals, No. 10 Montclair State and No. 4 TCNJ — the Red Hawks will travel to face the Lions in a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday.
