College Rankings: Week of November 6

Updated rankings for the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coaches Polls for Divisions I, II and III have been released. Listed below are the Top 10 schools in each division. For a full detailed list of rankings, click the link below each corresponding division. The polls are voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Field Hockey Championships.

Division I:

For the ninth and final time this season, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels were voted into first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Atlantic Coast Conference champions are undefeated heading into the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship tournament where they took the number one seed - the Tar Heels will know their opponent after opening rounds conclude on Wednesday.

In second place this week is the University of Maryland. The Terrapins were crowned Big Ten Tournament champions on Sunday and took the number two seed in the NCAA Championship tournament - they will face No. 17 University at Albany, winners of the America East Conference championship. Following the Terps are No. 3 Duke University and No. 4 Princeton University - both teams will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship tournament. Completing the top five is the Big East Conference champion, No. 5 University of Connecticut. UConn will face No. 11 Rutgers University in the first round.

Division II:

West Chester University's triumph over then-No. 1 East Stroudsburg University last week, gave the Golden Rams the boost they needed to take first place in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll this week. No. 1 West Chester won the conference game, 1-0, over No. 3 East Stroudsburg at home last Tuesday. This week, the first-place team will take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania in their final regular-season contest.

Moving up two spots this week is No. 2 Pace University. Pace is currently at 16-1 and at the top of the Northeast-10 conference standings after a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Merrimack College last week. The Setters will face No. 9 Stonehill College today at 6:00 p.m. EST in the last contest of their regular season.

Going into the final week before postseason, defending Division II national champion, Shippensburg University, is sitting in fifth place, Kutztown University is in sixth place and LIU Post is in seventh place.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, November 13. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.

Division III:

In the final week of voting, Messiah College took first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. Messiah's record currently stands at 19-0. The Middle Atlantic Conference-Commonwealth champions will host the second and third rounds of the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship tournament — their first game will take place on November 10, when they will play the winner of Endicott College's and Saint Joseph's of Maine's first-round contest.

This week No. 2 Middlebury College, New England Small College Athletic Conference champions, and No. 3 Rowan University, New Jersey Athletic Conference champions, were separated by just one point. Middlebury finished the year at number two after spending most of the season ranked first, while Rowan climbed steadily up the ranks starting at number 15 and finishing third. Both teams will host the second and third rounds of the NCAA Championship tournament.

Rounding out the top five are No. 4 Tufts University and Liberty League champions, No. 5 Vassar College. These teams will serve as NCAA host institutions as well.

The Division III NCAA Championship tournament will begin tomorrow, November 7 with first-round games happening across the country.
