Dear Head Coach Janneke, Team USA Athletes and Coaching Staff,
On behalf of everyone involved in the sport, I would like to wish you all the very best as you compete in the 2018 Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup. As the tournament gets underway tomorrow in London we will all be supporting you and cheering our team on.
You have worked so hard as a group in the many months and years leading up to this moment. With your memorable first place in the World League Semifinals in South Africa in July last year, you earned the opportunity to compete with the best teams in the prestigious World Cup. While competition will be fierce we know you all will give everything and represent USA with pride.
A huge thank you to all those that have helped get our eighteen star players to this global stage. To those of you who first introduced the sport to them and still keep encouraging new young athletes into field hockey; to those who played with and against these players - and I am sure many of you remember just how tough these competitors are; to those who guided these athletes as coaches and mentors through their club, school and college careers; to those who helped officiate these great talents as they progressed in hockey; and above all to the parents and families of these athletes who have always been there for their daughter, granddaughter or sister. You will follow your hero in their World Cup adventure with special emotion knowing what a journey it has been to this point.
And to all of us who care about field hockey, take special pride in cheering on Team USA, they represent the very best of our sport. Team USA – compete hard, we are with you!
