USA Field Hockey Announces Janneke Schopman as Summit Coach Education Track Speaker

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - January 3, 2018USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce that Janneke Schopman, U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach, will be presenting in the Coach Education track at the inaugural USA Field Hockey Summit, presented by AstroTurf, in Baltimore, Md. As a very experienced coach, Schopman has a role in a lot of the coach education presentations. She will introduce the basic skills and building blocks for successful individual player development. She will sit on a round table discussion panel with coaches and umpires to go over perspectives of one another and she will break down the key technical points for teaching backhand skills.

Schopman took over the role of U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach in January, 2017, after serving as the USWNT Assistant Coach and U-21 USWNT Head Coach since April, 2014. In her role as head coach, the USWNT qualified for the Vitality Women’s Hockey World Cup with a first-place finish at FIH Hockey World League Semifinals this past summer and competed for the first-time at the Sentinel Homes Hockey World League Final in New Zealand in November. She also led the USWNT to a third-place finish at the 2017 women's Pan American Cup hosted in Lancaster, Pa.

Schopman is a former captain and a two-time Olympic field hockey medalist for the Dutch National Team. She was a part of the silver-medalist squad at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and a member of the gold-medal squad in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Schopman also played on the Dutch squad that won gold at the 2006 Women’s Hockey World Cup and the Champions Trophy on three occasions in 2004, 2005 and 2007.
