NFHCA Announces 2018 Spiideo/NFHCA Division I Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year Awards

GILBERT, Ariz. - Five staffs have been recognized as their region's Spiideo/NFHCA Coaching Staff of the Year.

The NFHCA officially recognizes each institution's countable coaches but acknowledges all of the important staff members that make each program successful.

Mid-Atlantic Region

University of Maryland

Missy Meharg, Katie Bam, Marvin Bam

The University of Maryland Terrapins finished the season 22-3 and were runners-up in the NCAA Division I National Championship. The Terrapins earned a share of the Big Ten Regular-Season Championship and were outright winners of the Big Ten Tournament Championship. Their roster touts Elite 90 award winner, Hannah Bond, 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year, Linnea Gonzales, three 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and six 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic All-Region honorees. The 2018 season was Meharg's 31st and it was the second season for both Katie and Marvin Bam.

Mideast Region

University of Connecticut

Nancy Stevens, Paul Caddy, Cheri Schulz

The University of Connecticut Huskies finished the season 19-4 and qualified for their 16th straight NCAA Championship Tournament. This year, the Huskies won their seventh straight BIG EAST Tournament Championship - the win was also head coach, Nancy Stevens' 500th at Connecticut. Their roster includes the 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Mideast Region Player of the Year, Cecile Pieper, three 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and seven 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mideast All-Regionhonorees. The 2018 season was Stevens' 29th at Connecticut and the 19th for Caddy and Schulz.

Northeast Region

Harvard University

Tjerk van Herwaarden, Elizabeth Jacobson, Kelsey Kolojejchick

The Harvard University Crimson finished the season 17-2 and had a record-breaking year, setting institution records in most wins and longest winning streak, and earned the highest ranking in history on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. This year, the Crimson won their fifth Ivy League Championship and earned their first NCAA Championship Tournament victory. Their roster includes two 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and five 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Northeast All-Region honorees. The 2018 season was the seventh for Van Herwaarden at Harvard and the first for Jacobson and Kolojejchick.

South Region

University of North Carolina

Karen Shelton, Grant Fulton, Mark Atherton

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels finished the season with a perfect 23-0 record and a 2018 NCAA National Championship - their program's seventh. This year, the Tar Heels were Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular-season champions and earned their 21st ACC Tournament Championship. Their roster features NCAA Championship Tournament MVP and 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA South Region Player of the Year, Ashley Hoffman, three 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and five 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I South All-Region honorees. The 2018 season was the 38th for Shelton, 13th for Fulton and second for Atherton.

West Region

University of Iowa

Lisa Cellucci, Michael Boal, Roz Ellis

The University of Iowa Hawkeyes finished the season with a 14-7 record and were runners-up in the Big Ten Tournament Championship. This year's trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament marked the 23rd for the Hawkeyes. Their roster includes two 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and five 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I West All-Region honorees. The 2018 season was the 19th for Cellucci at Iowa, fifth for Boal, and first for Ellis.
