SYRACUSE, N.Y., August 31, 2018 -- USA Field Hockey, a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee and the International Hockey Federation, has selected Quadrant Biosciences Inc. (Quadrant Biosciences), an emerging life science company out of Syracuse, N.Y., as its official Brain Health Partner. Quadrant Biosciences will provide USA Field Hockey access to the ClearEdge Brain Health Toolkit (ClearEdge) to objectively measure and track cognitive function, balance and symptoms of its members.
USA Field Hockey strives to grow the game of field hockey through maintaining and adjusting safety guidelines and ensuring all members, players and coaches adhere to safety standards. Entering into strategic partnerships, such as with Quadrant Biosciences and its best-in-class ClearEdge Brain Health Toolkit, furthers this important goal.
ClearEdge was developed in cooperation with researchers and clinicians at SUNY Upstate Medical University. It includes a collection of FDA compliant functional assessments designed to monitor and track subtle changes in cognitive function, balance and patient symptoms over time. Certified ClearEdge test administrators will meet with USA Field Hockey members for initial brain health testing. Athletes will be monitored throughout their playing careers.
“USA Field Hockey is excited to partner with Quadrant Biosciences Inc.,” said Adam Andrasko, USA Field Hockey’s Member Services Director. “Our top priority is the health, safety and enjoyment of our membership. By partnering with Quadrant Biosciences, we provide our athletes with a certified system to assess their brain health, and our coaches and club owners have a tool that can help them make an educated decision when allowing their athletes to return to the field.”
USA Field Hockey Members across the country will have access to ClearEdge within the coming weeks to begin testing. Andrasko encourages all members to get a ClearEdge Brain Health assessment this season.
“Field hockey is a fast paced, action packed sport and although the chances of concussion are low,” continued Andrasko. "We encourage all athletes to get a ClearEdge test to have a base to compare against should an injury occur and in general to track their brain health over time.”
Richard Uhlig, founder and CEO of Quadrant Biosciences was likewise excited about the partnership.
“It is very gratifying to see our ClearEdge brain heath technology adopted by an organization such as USA Field Hockey that is so focused on the safety and education of its members,” added Uhlig. “Providing athletes with objective and reliable assessments of their brain health over time will help ensure they have a safer, and therefore more successful, playing career.”
