#SQUAD Goals: Meet Sophia Tornetta

Nov. 18, 2016, 9:08 a.m. (ET)

USA Field Hockey will be featuring weekly spotlights of U.S. U-21 Women's National Team members selected to represent Team USA at the women's Hockey Junior World Cup 2016 (JWC).

She loves watching 90210 and Gossip Girl while hanging out with her friends. Her brother is her number one fan and she has a competitive nature where she always wants to win. She used to be a gymnast and enjoys vacationing in Hawaii. Meet U.S. U-21 Women's National Team member Sophia Tornetta.

Sophia has an older sister, little sister and little brother. Growing up she would always look up to her older sister and try to copy everything she did. Whatever it was, Sophia always wanted to know what is going on in the family and would make sure she found out. Her family is the most important thing to her and because she has a big family, she wants to have a large one herself when she is older. Throughout everything she has done, her family has always been there to support her and pick her up when she is down. They have always believed in her from the start and push her every day to be her best.

Her little brother, Andrew, has been brought to basically every field hockey game on the planet and with that has become one of her number one fans. He is also someone who can always put a smile on her face. Even when they were little, she would always ask him to come outside with her and help her practice. Since he played baseball he would often bright his glove out and somehow they would find a way to help each other get better.

Her favorite thing outside of field hockey is hanging out with her friends and family. She loves to watch 90210 and Gossip Girl with her friends, and when they aren't doing that you can usually find them talking or shopping.

She has always loved competing, especially with her siblings. This competitive nature carried over into middle and high school where she did gymastics, swimming, tennis, golf and ran track. No matter what, she always wanted to win. She absolutely loves to travel and hopes that one day she will have the chance to travel all over the world. She thinks traveling gives people a chance to enrich themselves in different cultures and opens people to different parts of the world. During the summer months, her and her family often go to her grandmother's beach house in Avalon, N.J. These are some of her favorite and most fond memories.

She is lucky to have her sister, Julianna (who is also on the JWC team), joining her next fall to be a Princeton Tiger. Sophia is looking forward to playing alongside her and getting the chance to watch her develop into a great player. She is excited for the opportunity to play and go to college with her best friend, and cannot wait for what he next 2 years will bring.
