Falgowski looks back at summer honor

With the season about to get underway, TarHeelBlue.com takes a look back at a highlight of the summer: At the conclusion of the U.S. Field Hockey Association National Championship in May, UNC senior Katelyn Falgowski was named Player of the Tournament and Carolina graduate Jackie Kintzer was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, both for the second year in a row . The event included the nation's best players, both from the college level and the national team.

The honor was particularly sweet for Falgowski, as it followed what was a challenging year. During the 2010 preseason, prior to what was to have been her final year of college competition, she suffered a concussion. The effects lingered all fall, keeping her on the sidelines and necessitating that she redshirt the season. Falgowski finally returned to the field with UNC in the spring, but the USFHA National Championship was her first big event back on the field.

UNC's team captain for the second year in a row, Falgowski opens her senior season on Saturday as the Tar Heels take on Michigan at the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. Over the summer, amidst UNC camps and tours with the National Team, Falgowski talked to TarHeelBlue.com about her comeback: CLICK HERE
