2019 USA Field Hockey Summit, presented by AstroTurf

What is the USA Field Hockey Summit?

As the national governing body for the sport of field hockey in the United States, it is USA Field Hockey's responsibility to promote and develop the sport for future generations to enjoy. Uniting the field hockey community and harnessing everyone's passion for the sport through a shared weekend experience can help fuel the growth and success. The 2019 USA Field Hockey Summit, presented by AstroTurf, is designed to bring the field hockey community together - Club and Program Administrators, Coaches and Umpires of all levels, Sponsors and Vendors - for an educational and inspirational weekend featuring guest speakers, professional development, awards and recognition, networking opportunities, and more.

Many field hockey, sport experts and business professionals will be speaking at the 2019 Summit to provide attendees with useful information, best principles and thought-provoking discussion. The keynote speaker will be Tom Farrey, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute. Farrey leads the renowned Project Play initiative and will also be moderating a panel discussion around “Growing the Game of Field Hockey in America.”

USA Field Hockey is excited to launch the American Development Model (ADM) at the 2019 Summit. The ADM is an organizing framework to develop and grow the game. The goal of the ADM is to:

  • Welcome and include all participants by supporting the many roles people can enjoy through the game of field hockey
  • Maximize enjoyment and retention by focusing on what, when and how the sport is taught, trained and played
  • Inspire a lifelong love of field hockey

USA Field Hockey’s ADM is built on the foundation of core values which bring out the full potential of every person exposed to the sport. When these values are embraced, participants learn the sport better, love it more, and enjoy it longer, while gaining important life skills in the process.

Club Administrators will share best principles and learn from field hockey and sport experts. Breakout session topics for Club Administrators will include:

  • Athlete Attraction and Retention
  • Parent and Constituent Engagement and Retention
  • Safety and Risk Management

Breakout sessions targeted to Coach Education will include both classroom workshops and skill demonstrations. Presenters include USA Field Hockey's Director of Coach Education and Learning Craig Parnham, U.S. Women’s National Team Coach Janneke Schopman and U.S. Men’s National Team Coach Rutger Wiese. Topics include:

  • Age Appropriate Development
  • Learner-Centered Coaching
  • Developing Young Goalkeepers

Breakout sessions for Umpires will include:

  • Positioning and Communication
  • Game Management
  • Managing Intentional Fouls

… and much more!

Registrants will be able to check out the vendor booths on Friday night and Saturday morning to network with vendors and see the latest in field hockey gear, uniforms and swag from sponsors and exhibitors.
