USA Diving Cancels World Cup Team Trials

Jan. 21, 2021, 5:45 p.m. (ET)

As we continue to monitor the ever-changing nature of COVID-19, assess the rise of cases across the country and prioritize the health and safety of our members, we have made the decision to cancel the 2021 World Cup Trials and not reschedule it.

The High Performance staff along with USA Diving’s CCE (Committee for Competitive Excellence) has reviewed contingency plans and have concluded that due to COVID-19 and the deadlines set in place by FINA, that the best course of action is to send the team that was selected in December of 2019.

“Our first choice was to have an in-person competition, but we just cannot make it happen safely in today’s environment,” said USA Diving High Performance Director, Dan Laak, “We are sending a great team.  I have confidence in the team that we are sending to accomplish the number one goal for this World Cup and that is to earn our five remaining Olympic quota spots.”

Thank you to our community for your support, we are proud to serve you and pledge to continue to act in the best interests of our athletes, coaches, and members. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
