The USA Diving Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council consists of staff members, athletes, coaches and thought leaders who are working together to address diversity, equity and inclusion as they impact USA Diving and its members and to help identify opportunities for improvement.
The Council has been meeting weekly for the last several months and would like to thank our community who read and provided feedback to the first draft of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Vision Statement.
After reviewing the initial statement and feedback, the Council has published a revised vision statement as well as coinciding strategic priorities. The finalized Vision Statement can be viewed here.
The Council recognizes that a vision statement is just the beginning, and the important work requires actionable strategies and input from the larger community. With tangible progress in mind, the Council has identified six diversity, equity and inclusion strategic priorities and wants to work directly with USA Diving members who are interested in helping to address these priorities. We have some ideas, but we also know that these priorities will be better addressed with input from others in our community.
USA Diving Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Priorities (in no particular order):
Increase the representation of women within leadership roles (e.g. coaches, judges, Board Members, mentors, etc.)
Increase the representation of racially minoritized populations within leadership roles (e.g., coaches, judges, Board Members, mentors, etc.)
Increase the availability of training opportunities and educational resources/materials for members of USA Diving focused on equity, diversity and inclusion.
Create equitable opportunities for long-term participation among underrepresented populations, with particular focus on racially minoritized individuals and individuals living in low-income areas.
Facilitate an inclusive environment for all members of the USA Diving community, particularly those who identify as members of historically marginalized groups (e.g., LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, etc.)
Anchor, solidify and prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in the policies and procedures of USA Diving.

Additionally, the Council has appointed Manny Pollard as Chair, Max Showalter as Vice Chair and Emily Richmond as Secretary to lead the Council moving forward.
