Eight divers, including three 2016 Olympians, have been nominated to compete for the U.S. Pan American Team at the Pan American Games from August 1-5 in Lima, Peru.
Olympic silver medalists Michael Hixon (Amherst, Mass./Bloomington, Ind.) and Steele Johnson (Carmel, Ind./West Lafayette, Ind.) and 2016 Olympian Amy Cozad Magaña (Indianapolis, Ind.) are among the eight divers named to the team.
It will be the second Pan American Games for Magaña, who also represented the United States at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.) also will be making her second trip to the Pan American Games after having competed for Team USA in Toronto in 2015.
Magaña and Schnell both will be competing in the women’s 10-meter events. Johnson and Ben Bramley (Wellesley, Mass./West Lafayette, Ind.) will dive in men’s 10-meter competition.
Hixon and Andrew Capobianco (Holly Springs, N.C./Bloomington, Ind.) will represent the U.S. in men’s 3-meter events. Sarah Bacon (Indianapolis, Ind./Minneapolis, Minn.) and Brooke Schultz (Fayetteville, Ark.) will compete women’s 3-meter.
Prior to heading to Peru, all eight divers will be competing at the FINA World Championships from July 12-20 in Gwangju, South Korea. Both the World Championships and Pan American Games are qualifying events for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
All Pan American Games roster nominations are pending final approval of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
