USA Diving dove into February with a lot of excitement. This month, the National Office celebrated the accomplishments of many throughout the diving community with high school state championships revving up, our Tier One squad being announced and many others receiving recognition for outstanding accomplishments. Let’s reverse back into February!
Brooke Schultz (Fayetteville, Ark.) dove into the month of February with a feature on the February cover of Swimming World magazine and in the article “Swimming World Presents: Brooke Schultz – All in the Family.” The Arkansas sophomore reflected on the moment when she won the NCAA Championship in the women’s 3-meter event last spring as a freshman, as well as what it meant to accept the championship trophy from her coach, and father, Dale Schultz.
Throughout the month, USA Diving celebrated the numerous accomplishments of our divers. The High Performance Department revealed the 2019 Tier One squad, featuring six members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team. The organization also followed youth divers competing in state championships across the nation. Learn to see which junior divers have captured the crown in their 2019 high school state championships and/or announced where they have signed their National Letters of Intent. As we dive forward into March, we will continue to update our lists to share who has been named champion in their home state, as well as where young divers will be competing at the collegiate level next year.
The National Office announced a new partnership with TrueSport, powered by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, to promote positive values in youth diving. Each month, TrueSport will share with the diving community resources encouraging positive principles in youth diving featuring topics surrounding sportsmanship, character building and healthy performance. This month, TrueSport provided resources on helping athletes cope with failure and how to demonstrate good sportsmanship before competition.
This month, USA Diving also made several announcements pertaining to upcoming competitions. Meet information packets for the 2019 Regional Championships are available. Meet information packets and hotel information for each region can be found by clicking on the region event. USA Diving also shared that there will be an additional live television event showcasing elite competition at the 2019 USA Diving Senior National Championships, as a part of the 2019 Team USA Champions Series, presented by Xfinity. The champions series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
To wrap up the month, Team USA divers were announced for the FINA World Series in Sagamihara and Beijing. The team will first compete in Sagamihara, Japan March 1 – 3 (local time) before traveling to Beijing, China for the next circuit of the World Series, which begins March 7 (local time) and concludes March 9 (local time).
