Bacon, Dinsmore In First After Women's 3-Meter, Men's 10-Meter Semifinals At Winter Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS – The field is set for Sunday’s women’s 3-meter and men’s 10-meter finals after preliminary and semifinal competition Friday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships. Sarah Bacon (Indianapolis, Ind./Minneapolis, Minn.) qualified first for the women’s 3-meter final, while David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio/Miami, Fla.) led the men’s 10-meter field. The top 12 divers in each event advance to the final.

Bacon scored 661.35 points on her two lists of 3-meter dives in Friday’s preliminary and semifinal competition to lead the qualifiers for Sunday’s final. Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas) qualified second with 657.65 points on her two lists, with Alison Gibson (Austin, Texas) finishing third at 643.20 points.

Dinsmore dominated the men’s 10-meter contest as he leads by more than 100 points heading into Sunday’s final. He scored 1036.60 points on his two lists of dives, with Jordan Windle (Morrisville, N.C./Austin, Texas) sitting in second at 897.65. Rafael Quintero (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Tucson, Ariz.) qualified third with 884.60 points.

In addition to naming national champions, the winter nationals are determining spots on the 2020 FINA World Cup team. Two divers in each individual Olympic event will be selected to represent the United States at the FINA World Cup in Tokyo in April.

The USA Diving Winter National Championships continue through Sunday, December 22. Saturday’s competition features the men’s 3-meter and women’s 10-meter finals along with men’s 1-meter preliminaries and finals.
