Herrera, Bromberg Lead After Semifinal Competition At 2019 Winter Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS – The field is set for Saturday’s men’s 3-meter and women’s 10-meter finals after preliminary and semifinal competition Thursday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships. Briadam Herrera (Miami, Fla.) qualified first for the men’s 3-meter final, while Murphy Bromberg (Bexley, Ohio/Austin, Texas) led the women’s 10-meter field. The top 12 divers in each event advance to the final.

Herrera scored 936.65 points on his two lists of men’s 3-meter dives to lead heading into Saturday’s final. Michael Hixon (Amherst, Mass./Bloomington, Ind.) qualified second at 842.60, with Rafael Quintero (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Tucson, Ariz.) finishing third with 830.35 points.

Bromberg led the women’s 10-meter divers with 736.35 points on her two lists of dives in Thursday’s preliminaries and semifinals. Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.) qualified second with 694.00 points, followed by Amy Magaña (Indianapolis, Ind.) at 684.05.

In addition to naming national champions, the winter nationals are determining spots on the 2020 FINA World Cup team. Two divers in each individual Olympic event will be selected to represent the United States at the FINA World Cup in Tokyo in April.

The USA Diving Winter National Championships continue through Sunday, December 22. Friday’s competition features preliminaries and semifinals in women’s 3-meter and men’s 10-meter.
